Famous Fido Rescue

WE CAN SAVE THEM ALL

SPONSOR A DOG

If youíre not currently in a position to adopt or donít have enough time to advocate for one of our animals, you can still be of great help by sponsoring. Sponsoring means you agree to pay for some or all of a particular animalís care. Each animal needs a different level of care. They all require food, shelter, toys and treats, but some will require more training, specialized training and varying amounts of veterinary care. Vet care ranges from a basic health check up to very specific procedures, such as kidney stone surgery. In return, we will provide you with updates on the animal you are sponsoring, so you can see the improvements you have made to their life.

ADVOCATE

If you are not currently able to adopt or sponsor an animal, we are always looking for enthusiastic advocates for our animals. An advocate may spend time with their chosen or allocated animal, help to socialize them, walk them and take them to training. An advocate will help to publicize their animalís availability for adoption. Spread the word by telling friends, family and neighbors. Create a Facebook page for your animal and ask your Facebook friends to Like the page. An animal is much more likely to get adopted when they have a special human friend supporting them!

ADOPT

Do you think you could provide a good home for a rescue animal? Then adopt! Our rescue animals will often need a little extra patience and care to adjust to a new home, so be prepared for it to be a process. Take a look at the animals available on our website and fill out an application form. [enter link to adoption application form] A member of our staff will call to discuss your application with you.

SPONSOR Q-Tip

Food & shelter care $100
Toys & treats $50
Vetting $80

Q-Tip

Q-Tip is a handsome, friendly and sweet six-year-old Maltese looking for a loving guardian.

Q-Tip lived with a family with 12 and 13-year-old children and one other male dog, a Schnoodle. They walked into their groomerís parlor one day and said they didnít want their dogs any more.

The groomer offered to find the dogs a new home. Q-Tip was pretty much allowed to do his own thing and had not been trained very well or housebroken. He dances for treats, but is pretty stubborn and willful for such a small and utterly adorable dog.

Q-Tip is very loving and very good for the groomer while she bathed him and cut his hair. Heís probably best in a home with teens and adults as he gets nervous when cornered; so he wouldnít be good with younger children.

SPONSOR WILSON

Food & shelter $100

Socialization training (6 wks) $240
Positive reinforcement training (per month) $250

Wilson

Wilson is a handsome, tall, loyal, and very strong, eight-year-old, 70-pound, male, shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian.

Wilson was living with an elderly woman who passed away in her home. Sadly, he was found days later in the home with her dead body. He was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control where he was almost euthanized. Lucky for him, Famous Fido’s came to his rescue.

Once you know Wilson, he is such a loving and smart dog. He is full of tail wags and kisses for those he adores. He is extremely protective of his people and afraid of those that he does not know, so you can just imagine how petrified he was in a cage in a crowded shelter. The woman Wilson lived with was a recluse and a hoarder, so she had no visitors and Wilson had no exposure to anyone but his best friend.

Wilson would do best with an experienced and patient dog-lover willing to continue his training.

Basil

Basil is a gorgeous, cuddly, friendly and fun, five-month-old, 32-pound, male, black and white, short and squat Pit Bull Terrier puppy looking for a loving guardian.

Little Basil is living in a foster home where he’s great with the other two big dogs. His tail is always happily wagging and he enjoys giving kisses. This pup is doing great with his housebreaking and is fantastic and quiet in his crate … he just needs a great home and regular schedule to perfect his training.

Big Foot

Big Foot is a gangly, snuggly, fun, puppyish, playful and sweet, one-year-old, 60-pound, tri-color Hound/Dane-mix looking for a loving guardian.

Big Foot is a friendly, clumsy, long-legged boy who was rescued form a West Virginia pound. He is living in a foster home where he has proven perfectly housebroken. He quickly taught himself to use his foster dad’s doggie door.

He gets along beautifully with most dogs, but he does like to play rough and doesn’t seem to know his own strength. This tall and goofy guy still needs to put on some weight so he’ll probably be at least 70 pounds when he fills out.

He needs some lessons in commands and how to walk like a gentleman on leash, but he’s great in the car and not at all toy or food-aggressive.

Charlie

Charlie is an adorable, feisty and playful, three-year-old, male, fawn and white Chihuahua looking for a loving guardian.

Charlie is extremely playful and loves to play fetch - even with a huge tennis ball almost as big as his little head! He will also dance on his hind legs for a treat. Little Charlie has a lot to learn in life and he’s looking for someone to give him a chance. He’s fearful of new people and other dogs at first, and will nip when nervous.

Charlie knows a bunch of commands and is perfectly housebroken and crate-trained. He bonds very closely to one person and is looking for an experienced dog-lover to keep him safe and boost his confidence.

Dora

Dora is a very beautiful, smart and opinionated, three-year-old, female Cairn Terrier looking for a loving guardian.

Poor Dora was dropped off at Chicago Animal Care and Control when her family no longer wanted her. We don’t know how she was raised or what she went through, but she needs a very special, patient, understanding and dog-experienced family. She is an utterly adorable, independent little girl, who enjoys playing with her toys and receiving attention - on her own terms.

Dora knows how to sit on command and if you pull out a treat her tail wags happily. She takes treats nicely from your fingers.

Wherever she came from, she was not accustomed to being touched and handled. She is affectionate with the people that she knows and loves. But, there are certain places that even those that she loves cannot touch her … like her back end. And, she does not like to be picked up from the ground, however she’ll jump right in your lap and you can pick her up from there. So, she is quirky but not completely un-manageable.

Eldridge

Eldridge is a very sweet, snuggly, and gentle, eight-year-old, 31-pound, male tri-color Beagle looking for a loving guardian.

Eldridge loves his foster mom, is great with kids, but loves men even more. He loves to snuggle with you on the furniture and spoon with you in bed.

As sweet as Eldridge is with people, he is not good with other animals. He is looking for a home as the one and only pet, and preferably with a fenced in yard in which to play. He can be reactive on leash - which makes him difficult to walk in neighborhoods with a lot of other dogs.

Eldridge was found as a chubby stray and brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control. He went to live in a foster home where he loves to be bathed, stroked and loved. He knows the command sit and will also dance for a treat. He is very food-motivated which will help in his continued training.

Skip is learning to sit on command and takes treats incredibly gently from your fingers.

Isis

Isis is a very beautiful, energetic, playful, lovable and snugly, three-year-old, 55-pound, female brindle pit bull terrier looking for a loving guardian. Isis landed at Chicago Animal Care and Control when her family could no longer care for her. She knows the command sit and takes treats nicely from your fingers. She loves car rides and she especially enjoyed the one that drove her from the shelter to live in a loving foster home. She loves people of all ages including kids and either shares her foster mom’s bed, or sleeps on a blanket at the foot of her bed. Isis leans into you in a sweet and loving manner. She loves to go for runs with her foster mom, play ball, and enjoys the company of male dogs her size or bigger than herself. She loves walks but can sometimes bark at other dogs while on leash.

Special Pitbull I class (6 wks) $240

Lady

Lady is a very playful, sweet, loving, and energetic, three-year-old, 50-pound, female, fawn and white pit bull terrier looking for a loving guardian.

Lady landed at Chicago Animal Care & Control when her family finished breeding her. She was so emaciated when she came into rescue it was pathetic. She is slowly gaining weight but the stress of living at a vet’s office is stressful. So, it would be wonderful if someone could give her a foster home while she waits for her permanent home.

Lady appears to enjoy the company of other playful young dogs like herself – probably best in a home without small dogs, children, or cats until she receives the training she needs to succeed in life. Lady sits on command, takes treats gently, is crate-trained, and appears to be housebroken.

Lola is an adorable, sweet and lovable, eight-year-old, Chihuahua looking for a loving guardian.

Lola landed at Chicago Animal Care and Control with 15 other dogs after being rescued from a hoarding situation. As you can see in the photo, her toes are deformed. We don’t know whether it’s from in-breeding or from an accident … but she gets around just fine. She dances happily for treats and enjoys being pet and loved.

She’s accustomed to living with a lot of other dogs, so she’s fine on her own or with other dogs.

Mickey is a high-energy, 12-pound, 18-month-old, Chihuahua/Terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian

Mickey landed at Chicago Animal Care & Control due to no fault of his own. He was rescued by Famous Fido, and spends his days with all the other dogs at the shelter.

Typical of any young dog, Mickey is looking for someone with the time and energy to train and exercise a young dog. He loves walks, but needs multiple walks a day to perfect his housebreaking.

Mickey is fast! And wiggly … for this reason, he’s recommended for adults and teens who can make sure to give him the training he needs so he doesn’t dart out the door and get lost. He loves his treats and will love training classes. He dances for treats and takes them gently from your fingers.

Pearl is a calm 5 year old, 12 lbs. female min-pin. She was abandoned at a kill shelter and was terrified before Famous Fido rescued her. Liz is housebroken and also uses a pee pad in the home. She sits on command and will dance for his treats; she takes them very gently from your fingers. She is not at all nippy or barky. She has a wonderful, lovely and gentle disposition.

Jordan is a loyal and loving fellow who is crate-trained and does well with housebreaking once he’s on a schedule. He’ll come over and sit in your lap … or if you’re out walking him in the cold, he allows you to pick him up and carry him inside. But, things tend to be on Jordan’s terms. He dislikes it when you reach into his crate ’ but he’s fabulous if he comes out on his own.

They were turned into Chicago Animal Care and Control by their family. I’m assuming the family had a lot of dogs and didn’t spend much time socialized them with people.

So, Doug and Susan are looking for a patient dog-lover to take them under their wing for training to boost their confidence and a lot of love. They groom each other, snuggle together, and never let each other out of view.
